There are fewer senior discounted air fares available now than five or ten years ago. Also the senior discounted price may not be the best price available.

blog-airplaneTips for locating and bagging the best bargain:
Some of the travel sites that enable you to search many of the airlines at the same time are Orbitz, Kayak, Travelocity, or Cheapoair (my favorite) and will provide a good price base to begin your search.

Once you have established which airline has the best rates and the times that work for you, compare the prices against those published on the airline’s web site.  After finding the lowest fare, call the airline and ask about its senior discount and its price, if you cannot locate it on the website. This will ensure you are receiving the best deal.

AirfareWatchdog works best for travelers ready to take off at the drop of a deal. The site has actual people lurking on airline Web sites in anticipation of fare sales. Bonus: The site includes fares from Southwest, Allegiant and other small airlines that may not appear on bigger search sites such as Kayak and Bing.

Another tip:  Most airlines post their lowest fares on Tuesday through Thursday.
